On the 3rd of December, PhD candidate Theoni Baniou had her final examination of her PhD thesis. Supervised by Dr Alexandra Livarda (GIAP/ICAC) and Dr Núria Romaní Sala (UAB), her work entitled:
‘Exploring Roman tastes: An interdisciplinary approach, using archaeobotany, organic residue analysis and GMM to reconstruct dietary habits in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula’
brought together new readings of Roman diet, foodways and plant management in the eastern provinces of the Roman empire, focusing on the sites of Guissona and Puig Castellar.

Her viva committee, Prof. Leonor Peña-Chocarro, Dr Alessandra Pecci and Dr Evi Margaritis, graded the thesis ‘Excellent with honours (cum laude)’ in an event celebrating high-quality research.
We wish Dr Baniou all the best for her future career, which we are sure will be brilliant!
