Great participation during the last OIKOS meeting celebrated this year at ICAC

Last 25th-26th April, the biennial Oikos meeting, the most important congress that assemble all the Catalan bioarchaeology research community, was organized by the Associació Catalana de Bioarqueologia (ACBA) (https://www.bioarqueologia.cat/). This 8th edition was co-organized with GIAP members, and it was conducted at the Function Room of the Institut Català d’Arqueologia Clàssica (Tarragona).
Dr. Lídia Colominas and Dr. Alexandra Livarda were part of the scientific committee.

The meeting was attended by more than 70 people and more than 40 oral communications were done.
The topics covered ranged from analysis of specific bioarchaeological sets to spatial analysis of bioarchaeological material recovered during the various archaeological projects carried out throughout the territory.

The meeting featured special interventions by Dr. Allowen Evin (Institut des Sciencies de l’Evolution, Montpellier) and Dr. João Pedro Vicente Tereso (Centro de Investigação em Biodiversidade e Recursos Genéticos, Portugal), who were in charge of the keynotes on Friday and Saturday respectively.



The congress was a reflection of the good moment that bioarchaeological research is experiencing in the Catalan scientific community, but also to reflect on the challenges it will face in the future as a science.

The next venue for the biennial Oikos meeting will be the Universitat de Lleida. Until then, the Catalan bioarchaeology research community will continue its progress to show the importance of this field of the Science.
