On 25th February, Dr Valentina Pescini and Dr Diego Moreno will conduct the seminar “Transhumance, Cross-Border Movement, and Historical-Environmental Heritage”.
The seminar will be focused on transhumance, a traditional practice of seasonal pastoral migration, which has long influenced Mediterranean landscapes, shaping territorial structures, cultural exchanges, and ecological systems. Dr Pescini will share the current aims and results of her project “Transeant“.
This seminar, part of the PRIN 2022 Project “Bridging Geography and History”, offers a multidisciplinary discussion on how transhumance continues to shape the Alpine environment across borders.
The seminar will be done in the Palazzo Prodi, University of Trento, at 14:00 CET, but will be possible to participate online (see QR code on the event poster)
This event is also related to the project “Unstable Borders: Exploring Cross-Border Connections through Cultural Heritage”, from the Department of Humanities and Philosophy at the University of Trento. This project challenges the traditional idea of borders, highlighting how cultural heritage and material culture can both reinforce and destabilize identity, sovereignty, and territorial belonging. Through art, historical artifacts, and individuals who cross borders—such as shepherds, athletes, merchants, and wanderers—this project explores how movement and exchange shape cultural and socio-ecological systems beyond political boundaries.
