Last week, part of the team started the fieldwork in the context of the TranScapes and ArqueoTer projects (see below for more information). The team consisted of Arnau Carbonell-Puigventós, Marta Flórez-Santasusanna, Arnau Garcia-Molsosa, Alfredo Mayoral and Josep Maria Palet.
The first morning we were in Ullastret, where we met with Gabriel de Prado, director of MAC Ullastret, to establish further collaboration in the context of the project.
On the afternoon, we moved to the field to start the archaeomorphological prospection. The aim of the archaeomorphological survey is to identify, analyse and validate on the ground the road and plot traces located during the photo-interpretation work carried out previously in the laboratory.
On the second day, we started surveying in Muntanya Seca (Palau-Sator), where we also analysed lithostratigraphic profiles:
On the third and last day of prospecting, we moved to the southern slope of Montgrí (Torroella) with the aim to design:
– The archaeological analysis of ancient agricultural terraces.
– The points of study and sampling of lithostratigraphic profiles.
Both interventions are scheduled for next autumn.
This sector of Montgrí is very interesting for the analysis and validation of the territorial setting of the Roman-Republican centuriation of Empúries.
Stay tuned to our channels for more updates on the projects!
