This September, GIAP-ICAC researchers have carried out archaeological and palaeoenvironmental research campaigns in the territory of the ancient cities of Klazomenai (Turkey) and Abdera (Greece). These works are part of the MEDLANDS project (PID2024-159127NB-I00).
This research aims to compare and characterize the anthropic impact and the evolution of the landscape in the territory of a Greek colony founded in the 7th century BCE (Abdera) and in its metropolis (Klazomenai), from before the foundation of the colonial establishment until its consolidation.
MEDLANDS is a collaboration of the ICAC with researchers from the Eforate for Antiquities of Xanthi and the Universities of Athens (NKUA), Crete (UoC), Izmir (Yasar U.), Isparta (Suleyman Demirel U.), Cologne, Edinburgh, Montpellier (ISEM UMR5554 UM-CNRS) and the Regional Archaeological service of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
