Remote sensing and computational approaches to site detection and landscape reconstruction in the Aegean
Hèctor A. Orengo – Institut Català d’Arqueologia Clàssica
The last decade has seen an important increase in the application of remote sensing and computational approaches to archaeological research. This is probably due to the increased availability of sources, including UAVs and new satellite data, and an increase application of computationally intensive methods, such as multitemporal analyses and machine learning. In this presentation a series of case studies focusing on diverse aspects of landscape archaeology will be showcased to illustrate the potential of new computational methods and how these can be applied to the highly heterogeneous Aegean landscapes.
